Men’s Ice Hockey Powers Past Fitchburg State, 7-3

PAXTON, Mass. - Anna Maria College defeated Fitchburg State University 7-3 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's ice hockey game on Saturday evening at Horgan Arena.

With the win, the AMCATS improve to 16-5-2 overall and 10-1-1 in conference play, while Fitchburg State moves to 17-6-0 and 10-2-0 in MASCAC action.

Anna Maria struck early on the power play, as Liam Wells opened the scoring just 1:59 into the first period off assists from Tobias Omholt and Nolan Ring. Wells doubled the lead at the 2:00 mark of the second period with another power-play tally, this time assisted by Brandon Della Paolera and Omholt.

The AMCATS continued to capitalize on power play opportunities midway through the second, when Braeden McKinnon converted on the man advantage with assists from Kenny Kalman and Liam Murdoch. Just over two minutes later, Max Pelletier pushed the lead to 4-0 with an even-strength goal, assisted by Ring.

Kalman added to the surge at 13:51 of the second, finishing a feed from Murdoch and Ring to give Anna Maria a commanding 5-0 advantage heading into the third.

Fitchburg State responded with three straight goals early in the final frame, including a power-play marker from Hunter Dunn and even-strength goals by Devin Niles and Aleksei Filimonov, trimming the deficit to 5-3.

Anna Maria answered quickly to halt the momentum. Pelletier netted his second of the night at 12:54 of the third, assisted by Adam Redding and Dylan McElhinny, before Owen Barrow capped the scoring at 14:58.

Pelletier and Wells each finished with two goals, while Ring recorded three assists. Omholt and Murdoch both added two assists apiece. In net, Matthew Hennessey made 35 saves on 38 shots to secure the victory.
