AUBURN, Mass. - Anna Maria College defeated Worcester State University in a shootout, with the contest officially recorded as a 2–2 draw in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's ice hockey game Thursday evening at Horgan Arena.

With the result, the AMCATS move to 8–5–2 overall and 4–1–1 in MASCAC play.

Anna Maria fell behind early, surrendering a goal just 1:37 into the opening period. Despite outshooting the Lancers 13–7 in the first, the AMCATS entered the intermission trailing 1–0.

The AMCATS responded in the second period, starting with a game-tying goal from Max Wennerberg with just under six minutes remaining. Christopher Friberg and Patrick Crooks picked up assists on the play. Anna Maria wasn't finished, as Lucas de la Salle scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Braeden McKinnon to give the AMCATS a 2–1 lead heading into the final period.

Worcester State answered in the third, scoring to tie the game at 2–2 and force overtime. The extra frame saw no scoring, sending the game to a best-of-three shootout. After both teams were scoreless through three rounds and Worcester missed on its fourth attempt, Crooks converted to secure the shootout victory for Anna Maria.

Matthew Hennessey played the full game in net for the AMCATS, stopping 23 shots and turning aside every attempt in the shootout.

Anna Maria returns to action Saturday, January 24, hosting Hiram College at 4:40 p.m.
