SALEM, Mass. - Anna Maria College scored three unanswered goals to defeat Salem State University 3-1 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's ice hockey game on Saturday evening.
With the win, the AMCATS improve to an overall record of 11-5-2 and 6-1-1 in conference play.
Salem State opened the scoring late in the first period, taking a 1-0 lead at the 18:06 mark. Anna Maria responded early in the second period, as Braeden McKinnon netted a shorthanded goal just 40 seconds in to even the contest at 1-1.
The AMCATS took control in the third period, beginning with a go-ahead goal from Lucas de la Salle at 1:03, assisted by Liam Wells. Anna Maria sealed the victory late, as Owen Barrow scored an empty-net goal at 18:55 with the assist credited to Max Wennerberg.
McKinnon finished the night with a team-high six shots on goal, while Wells and Wennerberg each recorded an assist in the victory. Pearce Baker anchored the defense with a +3 rating and six shots, as Anna Maria limited Salem State to just one goal over the final 41 minutes of play.
Matthew Hennessey was essential to the AMCATS win, making 39 saves with a .975 save percentage to hold the Vikings to a single goal and secure the win.
Anna Maria returns to action on Thursday, February 5th, for a home game against MCLA beginning at 5:40 p.m.
